Pros and Cons of Consuming Dairy

Dairy products include milk, butter, cheese, yogurt etc. They are loved by a lot of people, who consume some of them on a daily basis.

We have all been taught as kids how important milk is for strong teeth and bones. However, how much of that is even true is debatable.

Are dairy products even necessary to make our diet a complete one? Are they always healthy for us?

Complete Nutritional Package

According to many health experts, milk can be considered one-stop for all our nutritive requirements. It has all the basic nutrients for growing kids, excluding iron. Even when most children can derive all these nutrients from other sources, such as legume, vegetables, and seafood, it is practical that they be given milk.

On the other hand, others will tell you that milk has also been related to different health problems. This is one of the reasons many experts avoid directly recommending milk for kids. One of these problems has to do with bleeding from the digestive tract. Another is linked with an inability to absorb iron, leading to the development of iron deficiency in children.

Whey and Casein

The two major proteins that are a part of most dairy products are also the most popular ones. Whey is one of those proteins that is also available in powder form. The branched chain amino acids so prolific in whey protein not only help speed up muscle growth, they keep the muscles from becoming sore after workouts, as well. Casein being the other one is also gaining popularity.

There are downsides to consuming whey and casein proteins, as well. These are visible in infants and smaller kids in the form of common food allergy. While many experts will tell you that your child will outgrow these allergies, it is still a matter of debate.

So, there are both pros and cons to dairy consumption. Only you can decide whether it is good for you and your family or not!
